Our special probiotic blend contains more beneficial "friendly" strains (17) (from organic, rural sources) than any other probiotic on the market today. Why could everyone benefit from taking this probiotic? Our Western diet, filled with sugar, fatty meat and chemicals, along with our use of antibiotics, give unfriendly bacteria in our gut the advantage. If you’ve been sick or taken antibiotics recently, you need to repopulate the good bacteria in your system. Indications for probiotic use include symptoms of floral imbalance, as well as many other conditions:
- GI sensitivity (cramps, diarrhea/constipation)
- Bloating or foul-smelling gas
- Dysbiosis, including IBS or partially-digested stools
- Yeast infections, thrush, cold sores, diaper rash
- Headaches and migraines
- Joint aches
- Chronic bad breath (halitosis)
- Rosacea, acne
- Fatigue, irritability
- Anorexia and/or bulimia
- Stuffy nose, increased mucus production
- Increased symptoms of PMS, perimenopause, or menopause
- Worsening sensitivity to sugar and fermented products
- Urinary tract infections, whether once in a while, recurrent or chronic
- Worsening symptoms of inflammatory conditions, like asthma
Anybody taking antibiotics or anti-fungal agents should supplement with probiotics during and for at least two weeks afterwards. We also recommend supplementing with probiotics during cold and flu season, and to help ward off food poisoning and parasites while traveling. Several probiotic organisms have been shown effective in the prevention and treatment of traveler’s diarrhea. If you’ve got a trip coming up, our well-balanced probiotic contains the yeast Saccharomyces boulardii plus a mixture of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum which have all been shown to boost the immune system.
Why is Osumex LB17 "live" the best probiotics on the market today, bar none? It has more live strains (17) than any other probiotic and it's made from organically farmed ingredients from Canada in a lightly industrialized area. In total, it is produced from over 70 natural and ORGANIC ingredients such as:
lactic acid bacterium (introduced as starter)

Unlike most mass produced freeze dried probiotics on the market, the above ingredients are allowed to ferment naturally for a period of 3 years. Due to the way that LB17 "live" probiotic is exposed to extremes in temperature (Canadian summers and winters) during the fermentation process, the bacteria in LB17 are potent, resilient and are able to stay alive for up to 3-5 years at room temperature without the need for refrigeration. The bacterium is live and viable and does not need to be revived unlike most other probiotics particularly those that are"freeze dried"! Prior to encapsulation with a vegetable gel cap, Perilla oil (high in Omega 3's) is added to provide the Omega essential fatty acids. LB17 does not contain any preservatives, additives, colouring, or artificial flavoring. (compare different probiotics)
LB17 "live" probiotic is suitable for vegans as well as the "raw foods practitioner". It is very useful to the lactose intolerant and milk protein (caesin) sensitive individuals as it breaks down dairy products and nutrients consumed so that they can be better absorbed by the body. The concentrate in each vegetable capsule of LB17 "live" probiotic contains 17 strains of lactic bacteria (10 lactobacillus + 2 bifidobacterium), digestive enzymes, amino acids, vitamins and minerals which include:

"... I have been using different probiotic blends over the years. The best I found by far is LB17. The ... more strands of different friendly bacteria, the better the probiotic. It ha been my experience that LB17 covers every area of body fluids from the sinuses to the reproductive organs which give LB17 a great advantage over any other probiotic. My patients love the small size of the capsules and I have used LB17 with great success on open wounds and stubborn acne by ... applying ... directly to the wound.
... be happy to recommend LB17 to any health practitioner."..

Below is an image of a box of LB17 live probiotic and vegetable soft gel capsule

Each box contains 60 capsules
Each soft vegetable gel capsule contains live and viable friendly bacterium and goes to work immediately upon release into the intestinal area of the digestive tract. Beneficial effects can be felt within hours of using LB17!
No preservatives, additives, artificial coloring or flavoring were used in the fermentation process
The benefits of using LB17 "live" probiotic include, but are not limited to, the following:
- treat and control fungal infections, including eradicating Candia, through the anti-fungal effects of LAB especially the LAB strains in LB17
- bring the balance of friendly flora in the digestive system back to at least 80% good bacteria
- assist in the digestion of food consumed and its subsequent absorption
- boost the immune system of the body
- in bringing the digestive functions back to good order, help to ease the stress on and cleanse the organs associated with digestion such as the liver, kidneys, pancreas, spleen, etc
- support the treatment of crohns and colitis
- study shows live probiotics protects intestinal cells from effects of infection by interoinvasive Escherichia coil (EIEC)
- improve oxygen intake to the red cell plateletes and thus improve the stamina and endurance of athletes from studies conducted by researches at Okayama University, Japan
- convert botancial lignans (SDG) in the bowel to mammalian lignans (ED and EL) to enable the body to absorb these powerul and amazingly beneficial substances. Lignans have been recognised and acknowledged by the medical fraternity as effective in treating and preventing cancers such as breast, bowel, colon and prostate
- in conjunction with Osumex Rice Bran Oils (RBO), significantly boost the healing powers of the skin. This is vital to individuals who are afflicted with Diabetes (Type-2) where healing properties of the skin have been impaired so that loss of limbs arising from serious infections may be avoided
- help treat psoriasis, a condition which is being recognised to be caused by a poor or inadequate immune system
- help treat asthma and mothers who use probiotics during pregnancy may ensure that the new born child do not develop asthmatic symptoms
- pevent colds and nasal congestions through elimination of excessive bad and harmful bacteria in the nasal passages
- ease and relief heart-burn, acid reflux and most other digestive disorders such as excessive intestinal gas
Comparison of Different Forms of Probiotics
LIQUID CULTURE
Example:
Yoghurt
Morphological changes due to external conditions
Only some cells are actively multiplying due to external changes in conditions
Subject to osmotic pressure changes
Uncertain shelf life
Viable population unstable
Survival uncertain
Temperature sensitive to small changes

Probiotic Supplements Ease Diarrhea and Other Gastrointestinal Disorders
Charlotte A. Kenreigh, PharmD; Linda Timm Wagner, PharmD
posted 04/17/2006 - Medscape Pharmacist
Author: Thomsen M
Altern Complement Ther. 2006;12:14-20.
The author concludes that the results of clinical studies support the use of probiotics for infective, antibiotic-induced, and travelers' diarrhea; vaginal thrush and recurrent cystitis; irritable bowel syndrome; colitis; food allergies; and lactose malabsorption. Probiotics may also be useful for the prevention of pouchitis, postoperative infections, and eczema. The author does warn that probiotics should be avoided in patients who are sensitive to any component of a probiotic formulation. Additionally, he acknowledges that the labeling of many probiotic products is substandard......more
Probiotics Boost Baby's Immune System and Aids in the Prevention and Treatment of Allergic Disease
Samuli Rautava and Erika Isolauri
Department of Paediatrics, University of Turku, Finland
The administration of probiotics, strains of bacteria from the healthy human gut microbiota, have been shown to stimulate anti-inflammatory, tolerogenic immune responses, the lack of which has been implied in the development of atopic disorders. Thus probiotics may prove beneficial in the prevention and alleviation of allergic disease.......more
Probiotics May Improve Children Health and Fight Disease
M.J. Friedrich and S. Gorback MD
Department of Medicine Tufts University Boston USA
There is evidence that probiotics can induce expression of mucin proteins, the large glycoproteins secreted by epithelial cells in the intestinal tract that provide protection from bacteria and viruses, said David Mack, MD, of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, who presented evidence for this mechanism at the meeting. He and his colleagues have shown that certain lactobacilli strains can increase the expression of MUC3 messenger RNA expression and MUC3 protein translation in cell culture and also inhibit adherence of enteropathogenic Escherichia coli to intestinal mucosal cells in culture. They hypothesize that by inducing mucin gene expression, probiotic agents may be able to minimize the interaction of other microbes with intestinal mucosal cells and lessen intestinal inflammation.
Preliminary data suggest that there are a number of other conditions in children for which probiotics may prove useful, said Johns Hopkins' Saavedra. These include inflammatory disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, such as inflammatory bowel disease and necrotizing enterocolitis. Treatment of hypercholesterolemia also has been reported, but there have been no major studies. And if immunoenhancing effects can be definitively demonstrated in humans, he said, probiotics could be used to reduce vaccine doses.
The FIRST STEP to a Strong Immune System
Dr Debby Hansen - Director of The Edison Institute of Nutrition, Federickton, New Brunswick, Canada
The gastrointestional (GI) tract is the major center of immune response. Gut Associated lymphoid Tissue (GALT) is the largest lymphoid organ in the body. The small intestine contains 80% of the immune-producing cells in the body. There are 400-500 indigenous species of micro flora in the large intestine, many of which are unculturable and therefore virtually unknown. There are 100,000 billion viable bacteria in the GI tract. Bacteria should compose 33% to 50% of fecal matter. Normal bowel flora is essential to the immune system, starting from birth. . more
Inflammatory Bowel Disease - Live probiotics protect intestinal epithelial cells from the effects of infection with enteroinvasive Escherichia coli (EIEC)

Department of Medicine, School of Medicine, University of California-San Diego, UCSD Medical Center 8414, 200 West Arbor Drive, San Diego, CA 92103, USA. srestalenert@ucsd.edu
Conclusions - Live ST/LA interact with intestinal epithelial cells to protect them from the deleterious effect of EIEC via mechanisms that include, but are not limited to, interference with pathogen adhesion and invasion. Probiotics likely also enhance the barrier function of naive epithelial cells not exposed to any pathogen.........more
Probiotics given to pregnant and lactating mothers reduced atopic eczema during the first two years of their child's life
Luise Kalbe, PhD., Brigitte Reusens, PhD., and Professor Claude Remacle, Cellular Biology Laboratory, University de Louvain, Belgium
Not only are probiotics therefore promising functional foods for pregnant women and infants, but they can be considered for prophylactic as well as therapeutic uses. Prophylactic use of probiotics for women during the last trimester of pregnancy and through childbirth, for instance, permanently colonised the gastrointestinal tracts of their infants. It is not yet known whether the immune-boosting properties of these probiotics require periodic pulse dosage or continuous administration.........more

Antifungal Effect of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB)
L. Vanne, T. Kleemola, A. Haikara - VTT Biotechnology
Results - All the four LAB strains studied using the indirect impedimetric method were able to delay or even inhibit the growth of A. ochraceus and P. verruosum during the 90-hour monitoring period. The most effective strains L. plantarum E76 and L. amylovorus E576, were able to inhibit the growth of all 14 fungal strains tested. The results achieved in this study show clearly that the growth of toxigenic storage fungi can be restricted by LAB in vitro.........more
Probiotics help in nasal congestion
American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Vol. 77, No. 2, 517-520 - February 2003
Conclusions - The results indicate that regular intake of probiotics can reduce PPB in the upper respiratory tract. The results also indicate a linkage of the lymphoid tissue between the gut and the upper respiratory tract
